Marquetry is the assemblage of wood veneers, primarily, to form a picture or design, taking into consideration the wood colour, wood grain, and any special figure in the wood, such as a burl. This workshop will cover various approaches to marquetry, using either an xacto knife or fret saw, special techniques such as sand shading, plus final mounting of marquetry piece to a substrate. Topics will include safety, tool selection, sharpening, design considerations, wood properties, proper mounting, and finishing. Each participant will have the opportunity to complete two different marquetry projects. The process is deliberate and meditative, but highly rewarding as the final image takes shape.

This is a two day workshop. Each day will begin at 9:00 am and end at around 4:00 pm. The workshop will be held at Intersections Wood Collaborative at 299 10th Street E., Owen Sound.
